Job Description:

Founded in 1974 as the Gay Community Center of Philadelphia the William Way Community Center has a 35-year history of serving the LGBT community in the Philadelphia region. The William Way Community Center seeks to encourage, support, and advocate for the well-being and acceptance of sexual and gender minorities through service, recreational, educational, and cultural programming. The Center currently has an operating budge of about $800,000, a staff of 14, and a 14-member Board of Directors.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the organization, overseeing all aspects of management, fundraising, finance, facility, planning, and marketing for the Center.  This position emphasizes resource development and managing staff with oversight of facilities, programs, and strong relational skills.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Management and Staff Administration:  Hires, supervises, and evaluates Director level staff and leads the Staff Management Team.  
2.    Fundraising and Development: Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan.
3.    Policy and Strategic Plan Implementation:  Ensures that staff implements the Board approved strategic plan and other Board approved policies.
4.    Fiscal Administration: Directs the preparation of an annual budget, in conjunction with the Director of Finance and Facilities and Board Treasurer.
5.    Outreach and Community Building: Represents the Center as its chief executive officer in all dealings with the general public and other organizations.
6.    Board Relations: Supports the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities and works to develop long-range goals for the Community Center.
7.    Committee Assignments:  Serves as the staff liaison to the Board, Executive Committee, Nominating, Financial and Personnel committees.
8.    Legal Compliance:  Ensures the organization complies with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Job Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:  1) Ten or more years of professional experience, including a minimum of five years’ experience in non-profit administration, with significant experience in leadership and supervisory staff positions. 2) Minimum of five years demonstrated success in fundraising, particularly in the areas of individual giving, planned giving, special events, and grant writing. 3) Relevant and demonstrable experience within the LGBT community and with LGBT groups or organizations. 4) Demonstrable track record of growing organizations, including strategic planning, programs and development efforts as well as the size of staff, operations and budget.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 1) Thorough knowledge of issues of importance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Knowledge of and experience in the local sexual minority community a plus. 2) Experience with interviewing, hiring and managing professional and non-professional staff. 3) Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, presentation and writing skills. 4) Able to work well with diverse constituents and allies. 5) Proven conflict resolution skills. 6) Ability to perform competently in stressful situations. 7) Proficient computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database design and management. 8) Undergraduate degree and experience in business, public administration, social or a related field required; graduate or professional degree preferred.
