Pepsi Co outlines what they are doing (which orgs they donate to, etc.) and how the American Family Assoc. (AFA) and X-gay group are attacking them. In 2007 and 2008 Pepsi gave a total of $500,000 to HRC and $500,000 to PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).   Also: Both HRC and PFLAG supported efforts in California to defeat Proposition 8 which defined marriage as being between a man and a woman. In fact HRC financially supported by Pepsi, gave $2.3 million to defeat Prop 8.

Also In an unusual move by a company, Pepsi wrote a condescending letter to the AFA‘s request that Pepsi not support PGLAG (this letter folows).

From the director of public policy at PepsiCo to AFA:

I’m responding to your letter to our Chairman. In 2008, the PepsiCo Foundation awarded a grant to Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays to support a national program specifically designed for workplace environments.

The initiative seeks to promote further understanding and equality in the places where people spend much of their time at work.

Among the values promoted by the PepsiCo Foundation is ensuring a work environment that is respectful and where associates are valued for their contributions.  I hope this helps clarify this grant by the PepsiCo Foundation.

To further explore their policy on inclusion see: Page 21

In the U.S., our numerous Diversity and Inclusion Networks promote a culture where our associates feel they have an equal opportunity to contribute and succeed. The groups include African Americans, Latinos/Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, Women, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender, and EnAble, for individuals with disabilities. In addition to our core associate resource networks, we offer Women of Color Multicultural Alliance and White Male Inclusion Advisory groups. In addition, all associates are required to participate in inclusion training sessions
